Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Wessisc, inspired by Brithenig, started from a question I asked myself: What sort of language would people speak if the language of the Anglo-Saxon invaders had merged with that of native Celtic speakers in Wessex, 1500 years ago? Wessisc is my attempt to answer this question.

The Babel Text (The Bible: Book of Genesis, chapter 11, verses 1-9) has been translated into Wessisc. I use this text because it is the standard for displaying a text example of a conlang.

And the legal stuff. Wessisc is entirely my own creation. The nice "Scattered Tongues" webring graphics aren't mine, they belong to the administrator of the ring. The background for this site isn't mine, it's courtesy of the people over at Celtic Web Art. The language is in the public domain, for anyone to use, but if you use it I would be grateful for an acknowledgement, and I will get upset if you don't acknowledge me, and if any development is done of the language, I would especially love to know. As it is, the language as it stands here is in its fairly fixed form. A few improvements or changes here and there might take place in he future, but this is Wessisc as it shall probably remain.

So I think that covers everything....

Oh, yeah. This is all subject to change.
